An electric shower is one of the heaviest single loads in a domestic property, and it is the job most often found wrongly wired during an EICR. A 9.5kW unit draws around 40A — that needs its own way in the consumer unit, correctly sized cable for the run length, and RCD protection. Swapping like-for-like is straightforward; going up in kilowatts almost never is.
We survey the existing supply before quoting so you know whether the shower you have chosen can actually be fed by the board you have. Where it can't, you get the cost of the extra work up front rather than a stalled bathroom half way through the day.

Why the kilowatt rating changes the job
A 7.5kW shower and a 10.8kW shower are not interchangeable on the same cable. The higher rating pulls more current, which means a larger conductor, a higher-rated protective device, and a check that the main fuse and tails can carry the whole property load with the shower running.
If the existing circuit was sized for the older, smaller unit, fitting a larger one without upgrading the cable leaves a circuit that works right up until it doesn't. This is a common C2 finding on condition reports.
What we check before quoting
Consumer unit spare ways and RCD arrangement, existing cable size and route, earthing and bonding at the incoming supply, the isolator position, and whether the run can be taken through the loft or needs chasing.
Where the board is a rewireable or wooden-backed unit, we will say plainly that a board upgrade should come first rather than hanging a large new load off an installation that can't protect it.
How the visit runs
Most straightforward replacements are a half-day. New circuits from the board, including cable runs and making good, typically take a full day depending on the property.
Power is off only while the new way is fitted and tested. We test the circuit, confirm RCD trip times, and email the certificate the same evening.
Common questions
Can I fit a more powerful shower on the existing cable?
Only if the cable size, protective device and supply capacity all support it. We check all three at survey and tell you before any work starts.
Does an electric shower need its own circuit?
Yes. It must have a dedicated circuit from the consumer unit with appropriate overcurrent and RCD protection.
Is the work notifiable?
A new circuit in a bathroom is notifiable under Part P. We handle the building-regs notification as part of the job.
