What makes one EV charger quote different from another
Everything that moves the price of a home EV charger install: cable run length, board capacity, earthing, groundwork and the unit itself.
Charge point quotes range widely, and the hardware is usually the smaller part of the difference. Cable run, board work, earthing arrangement and any groundwork are what actually vary between two houses on the same street.
We survey first — photos are often enough — so the fixed price covers everything including notification and the certificate.
- Distance from consumer unit to the charge point position
- Spare capacity at the board, or the need for a board upgrade
- Earthing arrangement and whether an electrode is required
- Any trenching, wall penetration or reinstatement needed
Cable run length
A charger on the wall directly behind the consumer unit is a short job. A charger at the far end of a detached garage across a driveway is a different piece of work — longer cable, sometimes armoured, sometimes a duct under the drive.
Board and supply capacity
A charge point needs its own protected way and enough headroom in the overall supply. Where the board is full or is an older unit without RCD provision, that work has to happen first, and we quote it visibly rather than folding it into a vague total.
Earthing and PEN protection
Outdoor charging equipment needs open-PEN protection or a suitable earth arrangement. Most modern units include the protection built in; where they do not, an electrode is installed and tested. It is designed at survey.

Is the certificate and notification included?
Yes — BS 7671 certification and any required notification are part of the fixed price.
Do I need to buy the charger separately?
You can, and we'll fit a unit you've supplied, or we can supply one that suits your supply and tariff.
How long does the install take?
Most single-day, typically three to five hours on site.
