Getting your home ready before we arrive
What to clear, move and arrange before an electrician arrives so the job runs to time — for board changes, rewires, EICRs and kitchen work.

A day lost to moving furniture is a day added to the job. Ten minutes of preparation makes most visits noticeably faster and reduces the dust and disruption considerably.
None of this is essential — we will work around whatever we find — but it genuinely helps.
- Clear access to the consumer unit and meter
- Move fragile items from rooms being worked in
- Note anything that must stay powered — freezers, medical equipment
- Confirm parking and, for flats, access to shared areas
Board changes and EICRs
The board needs to be reachable — clear the cupboard or move whatever sits in front of it. Tell us in advance about freezers or anything that cannot lose power, and we will plan the isolation sequence around them.
Rewires and first-fix work
Rooms should be as empty as practical, with carpets liftable and furniture centred and covered. Dust is unavoidable when chasing, and closing internal doors makes a real difference to how far it travels.
Access and parking
Loading heavy cable drums a long way is time on the clock. If parking is restricted, tell us at booking so we plan for it. For flats, arrange access to communal risers or meter cupboards before the day.
Common questions
Do I need to be home the whole time?
Not usually — we just need access at the start and to hand over at the end.
What about pets?
Let us know. Doors get propped open and tools left down, so keeping pets in one room is safest.
Will you clear up?
Yes — our own waste goes with us and we leave the work area swept.
