Full rewire or partial rewire?

Nobody wants a full rewire. It is disruptive, it involves plastering, and it costs several times what a partial job does. So the honest question is whether a partial rewire solves the problem or simply defers it at greater total cost.
The deciding factors are cable condition, cable type, earthing arrangement, and how much of the installation shares those problems.

When partial is the right call
If your installation is broadly PVC-cabled and in reasonable condition, and the problems are concentrated in one area — a kitchen extended badly, a bathroom without proper protection, a garage on a long spur — then rewiring that section and upgrading the board is sensible and proportionate.
When partial is false economy
Rubber-insulated or fabric-covered cable does not improve with age. If it exists in one part of the house, it usually exists in others behind the plaster. Rewiring one room means paying for access, protection and making good twice.
The same applies where there is no circuit protective conductor to lighting points — a very common find in older Valleys housing stock.
Doing it in stages
If a full rewire is unaffordable now, staging it is better than ignoring it. We plan the stages so the board work happens once and each stage leaves the property fully certified rather than half-finished.

How do I know which cable I have?
An EICR or even a quick look inside a ceiling rose tells us. Colour and insulation type are the give-aways.
Does a partial rewire need certification?
Yes — the work carried out is certified and any new circuits notified.
Can I live in the house during a rewire?
Most people do. We work room by room and restore power each evening where possible.
